The Death has taken place of Sr. Teresa
Landy, on Thursday 5th March 2009.
Sr.Teresa Landy lost her relatively short battle against cancer
when she passed away last Thursday amongst the community whom she
loved so much, her sisters at the Mercy Convent. Sr. Teresa was
an amazing woman. As well as being a very spiritual person who was
dedicated to the Mercy Order, she was also a friend and confident
to so many people. She touched many hearts, from teaching colleagues,
to the people of Callan and beyond. She related easily to young
people and especially to the girls at St. Brigid’s, many of
whom owe so much to the Windgap native.

St.Brigids Callan 1-11 Portumna C.S. 1-5
It takes a tremendous amount of character, invariably a character
crafted on the factory floor of success, to defend a title, any
title. The camogie girls of St.Brigids College Callan used every
atom of their hard-earned inner belief to win their second in succession
All Ireland Colleges Final in Drom-in-Inch against a daunting, very
skilful Portumna Comprehensive School on Saturday last.

3c are held a Fairtrade
awareness day on Friday the 13th of March 2009.
The following activities took place on the day:
- a products display, giving out samples of Fairtrade products,
such as:
- chocolate
- fruit
- tea
- coffee
- hot chocolate
- Teachers also participated in a fairtrade coffee morning.
- 3c taught students about the importance of fairtrade and interdependance
around the world.
The students were also be shown ways in which they can help support
fairtrade.

When Maureen Saunders arrived at the Convent
of mercy in Callan, she could not have foreseen the phenomenal impact
her leadership, enthusiasm and educational management skills would
have on girls’ secondary education over the next sixty years.
As Catherine McAuley said, “Wherever the need is, there
you will find a Sister of Mercy.”
