Spiritual Needs of students:
Arising from our conviction that human fulfilment can only
be found through faith in Jesus Christ and imitation of Him,
we at St Brigid’s College seek to form pupils who will
strive to give Christian Leadership through the quality of
their lives and their commitment to work for a more just and
caring society. The practice of daily prayer is observed in
St. Brigid’s College and the custom of standing for
a brief moment in prayer at the beginning of each class, which
has always been a feature of Mercy education is observed.
The school has the service of a chaplain and through worship,
prayer and celebration of the sacraments we strive to give
students a living experience of their faith, and deepen their
relationship with Christ. The school offers several extra-curricular
activities including class retreats, and a number of charitable
activities.

Pastoral Care:
St. Brigid’s College aims to cater for the individual
needs of its students. Each girl has a number of responsible
adults to whom she can turn in times of need. The school Chaplain,
Guidance
Counsellor and Class Tutor are available to listen to
a girl’s anxieties or worries, and to encourage and
to offer advice. The Claddagh
Group helps to ease the transition from Primary School
to Secondary. Each member of the staff is committed in helping
each student to become a well-adjusted young adult. Mutual
respect and co-operation between pupils and staff are based
on our Code
of Behaviour and are central to the building of a sense
of community
Learning Support:
St. Brigid's College is very fortunate to have a fully qualified
Learning Support Teacher and a number of Special Needs Assistants
on its staff. The school provides a service to support and
assist pupils with special needs. This service involves identifying
those pupils with learning difficulties and devising individual
programmes of work to meet their needs. These are then implemented
on a small group or individual basis. Input and involvement
from parents and class teachers is an integral part of the
programme [more...]

Other Extra Curricular Activities:
Our broader history shows that our Mercy School heritage in
Callan dates back to 1873 - "St. Anne's excelled
in the teaching of foreign languages, literature, art, painting
in oils and water colours, fancy needlework, book-keeping,
algebra and Geometry, instrumental music and singing, deportment,
speech and drama and all the accomplishments and social graces
necessary for a young lady ". In keeping with this
proud tradition the fields of art and culture continue to
be an important element of our broader curriculum.
It is the policy of the school to provide a wide range of
activities to cater for the needs of as many students as possible.
All students are encouraged to participate in these activities
which include: the school choir, school orchestra, educational
school tours, art exhibitions and trips to art galleries,
debating,, quiz competitions, treasure hunts, many workshops, etc.
This range of activities is made possible by the commitment
and co-operation of the staff.
We believe that involvement in extra curricular activities
benefits both staff and students and strengthens the sense
of the school as a community. The availability of such activities
may vary from year to year and indeed new activities may be
introduced. Extra-curricular activities are often advertised
by means of the school's notice boards. Students are advised
to survey these notice boards on a regular basis.
