Every year a Seachtain na Gaeilge take place in our school.
Many of our teachers get very busy organising activities as
Gaeilge. Everyone looks forward with anticipation to the various
activities planned for the week.
We spend many classes practising for our monster ceilí.
Ms. O'Shaughnessy organises all the practices and the Monster
ceilí, which is usually brilliant 'craic'. Ms. O'Keefe
and Ms Costelloe also help out with the organisation of the
ceilí. We spent our classes practising dances such
as The Siege of Ennis, many polkas and the famous Walls of
Limerick.
People speak Gaeilge around the school and for that week
it is compulsory to speak Irish in the library. There is also
a table quiz which involves each year in the school. This
event is thoroughly enjoyed by all and the victors get to
feast on Easter eggs.
For Seachtain na Gaeilge Ms. O' Shaughnessy holds a competition
between all the First year, Second year and Third year classrooms
to see which class could make their classroom look the prettiest
- and of course the most Irish looking.
All room names are placed on the classroom doors of the school
in Irish. Also there are Art competitions organised, one between
juniors and one between seniors with the winners receiving
a box of beautiful chocolates. All participants in the art
competition are be required to draw a picture or create a
design associated with Irish culture. All the pictures and
designs entered into the competition are displayed around
the school for all pupils to see. The organisers of the competition
then select the 2 winners. A concert 'as gaeilge' is also
held. This concert brings to an end to our weeks activities
for Seachtain na Gaeilge.
