St. Brigid's College has a strongly motivated and very successful
Art Department. Every student is encouraged to explore a variety
of media and techniques from first year through to Leaving
Certificate.
Many of our past students have chosen to make art their career
and past pupils are employed nationally and internationally
as graphics designers, ceramic artists, art teachers, fashion
and jewellery designers.

There are two Art teachers who provide a comprehensive art programme
throughout the school and students are introduced to skills
ranging from pottery, batik printing and model making to drawing,
sketching and working with mixed media.
Students are encouraged to exhibit their work both around the
College and in local and national galleries where possible.
The Butler Gallery (Kilkenny) and the National Museum in Dublin
have proven to be two of our most interesting venues in recent
years.
Students also gain great confidence through local and national
recognition of their work in competitions. We have had national
finalists in the Annual Credit Union Poster competition, the
Call Card competition as well as the more unusual - Young film
makers.
Practical and theoretical work is complemented by trips to Art
galleries. Students from First to Sixth year are given the opportunity
to view and appreciate traditional as well as the more contemporary
artists work. The Municipal ( Hugh Lane) Gallery, the National
Gallery and the Butler gallery are Excellent Annual learning
venues.
Art has a strong tradition and following in St. Brigid's College
and in the local community. With continued enthusiasm and support
from staff and students its future in the bedrock of the academic
foundation of the college seems assured. To learn more about
